Biography
Professor Dr. Carlos Van Mieghem was a staff member of the department of interventional cardiology at Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands, until 2007; cardiology staff member at Maasstad Hospital Rotterdam, Netherlands, until 2009; staff member of cardiology and head of Cardiac Intensive Care at the OLV hospital Aalst, until 2017; and current cardiology staff member at the AZ Groeninge hospital Kortrijk, Belgium. He is also a professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the Catholic University of Leuven, founder and director of the health platform 'Evity Clinic', member of the European Lifestyle Medicine Organization (ELMO), and consultant Lifestyle Medicine Specialist at the Leie Medical Center. in Astene.
He became a member of the European Lifestyle Medicine Organization (ELMO) in 2020. He is actively involved in the organization of the annual conference of ELMO, is a member of the Scientific Council of ELMO, and is a lecturer for the training course established in 2023. Masters in Lifestyle Medicine, organized by the University of Thessaly and its departments of Medicine, Physical Education & Sports Science and Nutrition & Dietetics, under the auspices of the European Lifestyle Medicine Organization'.
He studied medicine magna cum laude at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium and successively obtained his recognition in internal medicine, cardiology and intensive care. He further specialized in cardiovascular scientific research, interventional cardiology and cardiac CT imaging at Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
His practice is focused on prevention, Lifestyle Medicine, general cardiology and interventional cardiology and cardiovascular imaging (ultrasound, CT and MRI).
His academic career started in 2009 with the public defense of his PhD thesis “CT coronary angiography: validation and clinical implementation”.
Research interest
Professor Dr. Carlos Van Mieghem has acted as a mentor to dozens of doctors and scientists at home and abroad.

Publicaties
Professor Dr. Carlos Van Mieghem has published extensively, as first author and co-author in more than 110 original research articles and several reviews, book chapters and monographs. He is a reviewer for several international cardiology journals, including European Heart Journal and Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
General interests
Professor Dr. Carlos Van Mieghem is a devoted admirer of various international sports. He participated in competitive swimming until the age of 21. He started swimming competitively again in the Masters series in 2012 and became Belgian champion in the disciplines of backstroke and butterfly in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017. He took 5th place in the 50m backstroke at the 'European Masters Swimming competition' in Rome in 2022.
